Keeping busy with appetizers and desserts

Happy New Year 2009.

Since the festivities have simmered down and we've all gathered our perspectives, we've only now found some time to do some leisure-baking :)

Recently we baked our very popular Black Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting. What's a Black Velvet you ask? You know how the Red Velvet is a Southern Cake that was given its name due to its velvet-like texture? Well, the Black Velvet is almost similar but not quite.

Sans the red coloring and filled with the yummy goodness of chocolate, topped with generous lashings of creamy cheese, we named the Black Velvet after Alannah Myles' song, "Black velvet with that slow southern style, A new religion that will bring you to your knees, Black velvet if you please...". Talk about an aptly named dessert, eh?

Also, we've been keeping busy with some appetizers we're sampling for a friend's wedding. We've come up with Red Wine Infused Meatballs with a berry sauce. These juicy morsels of delight are soaked in red wine, chives and garlic, and topped with our homemade berry sauce. Very yummy indeed!
